- Unlike most primates, gibbons have wrist joints that function like a ball-and-socket, allowing for incredible flexibility during their rapid brachiation.
- Gibbons are known as the 'lesser apes' due to their smaller size compared to great apes like chimpanzees and gorillas. They can leap distances of up to 10 meters (33 feet) between trees. Each gibbon species has its own distinctive song, which pairs use to defend territory and strengthen social bonds.
