- Ilha da Queimada Grande, the only home of the Golden lancehead, is often called 'Snake Island' and is closed to the public due to the snake's deadly venom.
- Golden lanceheads can only be found on a single island, making them one of the world's rarest snakes. Their venom is up to five times more potent than that of their mainland relatives. Because the island lacks mammals, they have adapted to primarily hunt birds.
