- Despite their name, golden moles are not closely related to true moles and belong to their own unique mammalian order, Afrosoricida.
- Golden moles have a unique leathery pad on their noses to push through soil. Their fur is waterproof and dirt-repellent, allowing them to move easily underground. They can detect vibrations in the ground to locate prey, compensating for their lack of vision.
