- Despite living in freezing mountain environments, these monkeys are one of the few primate species that can endure heavy snowfall and temperatures as low as -8°C (17°F).
- Golden snub-nosed monkeys have been recorded huddling in tight balls through snowstorms, with the highest-ranking individuals occupying the warm centre. Non-mothers in a group will nurse another female's infant - allonursing that in some Qinling groups covers a substantial fraction of all suckling bouts. The species name roxellana comes from a legendary snub-nosed consort of Suleiman the Magnificent, an eighteenth-century European naming conceit that has nothing to do with China.
