- The Goliath Birdeater's fangs can be up to 2.5 cm (1 in) long—strong enough to pierce a mouse's skull.
- It is the heaviest spider in the world — and it very rarely eats birds, despite the name. It kicks irritating hairs off its abdomen into an attacker's face before it will consider biting. It hisses audibly by rubbing bristles on its legs together. Its fangs are huge, but the venom is not medically significant — the danger is the puncture, not the poison.
