- Despite being the largest frogs on Earth, Goliath Frog tadpoles are only about 1 cm long when they hatch.
- Goliath frogs can leap around 3 m from a standing start, and captured animals have escaped enclosures by clearing the walls. Despite their bulk they are shy and wary, with excellent eyesight, and hunters typically have to take them at night from a distance. The nest-building discovery in 2019 was the first record of rock-moving nest construction in any African frog and suggests the species' size is directly tied to the strength needed to shift the stones.
