Did you know?
- The Great Hammerhead Bat is one of the most sexually dimorphic bats in the world, with males often twice the size of females and having a completely different head shape.
- A male hammer-headed bat's larynx is so large that his internal anatomy is rearranged around it, an anatomical compromise made purely for volume. The lek honking is one of the loudest sounds produced by any bat, and males lose substantial body condition over a display season. Females are so different in shape from males that early naturalists catalogued the two sexes separately.
