- At one point, the Greater Adjutant was considered a nuisance in urban areas, but now its largest breeding colonies are protected by local communities as a conservation success story.
- The Greater Adjutant gets its name from its stiff marching gait, resembling a military adjutant. It is one of only three species of 'adjutant storks' worldwide. These birds are known to nest in colonies, often in tall trees near human settlements.
