- Despite eating bamboo loaded with cyanide daily, the Greater Bamboo Lemur has a unique physiological tolerance that prevents poisoning.
- The Greater Bamboo Lemur is one of the few mammals able to consume giant bamboo, which contains toxic cyanide. It uses its powerful jaws to chew through tough bamboo stalks. This lemur was once thought to be extinct until its rediscovery in the 1980s.
