- The Greater Bilby is sometimes called the 'Easter Bilby' in Australia, where it serves as a conservation-friendly alternative to the Easter Bunny.
- Bilbies have the shortest gestation of any mammal at around 12 to 14 days, after which the bean-sized young crawl into the backward pouch to finish developing. They do not need to drink, extracting all their water from food. Bilby burrows are used by dozens of other species as shelter from heat and fire, which is why the animal is treated as an arid-zone ecosystem engineer rather than just another marsupial.
