- Despite their showy plumage and displays, Greater Birds-of-paradise are sometimes heard more often than seen, as their calls echo through dense rainforest canopies.
- Male Greater Birds-of-paradise perform elaborate dances and hang upside down from branches to display their feathers. Their scientific name 'apoda' means 'footless,' due to early trade skins missing feet, which led Europeans to believe they never landed. Flocks of these birds can sometimes be seen feeding together on fruiting trees.
