- Green Herons have been observed using bread, insects, feathers, or other objects as bait to catch fish—a rare example of tool use in birds.
- Green Herons are one of the few bird species known to use tools, sometimes using bait to lure fish. They can extend their necks to surprising lengths when striking at prey. Juveniles are more streaked and brownish compared to adults.
