- Unlike most salamanders, the Green Salamander can climb vertical surfaces thanks to its square-tipped, expanded toe pads.
- Green Salamanders are the only North American salamanders with toe pads adapted specifically for climbing. They are also one of the few salamanders that exhibit parental care, with females guarding their eggs until they hatch.
