- The Grey Crowned Crane is the national bird of Uganda and appears on the country’s flag and coat of arms.
- Grey crowned cranes are the only cranes able to perch, and flocks routinely spend the night in the tops of acacias. Their chicks can leave the nest and swim within a day of hatching. The foot-stamping foraging technique is effective enough that cranes will follow grazing cattle and buffalo to take insects the larger animals disturb.
