- Despite their eye-catching appearance, female Guianan Cock-of-the-rocks are masters of camouflage, blending in perfectly with their forest environment while raising their young.
- The crest is present on males year-round and cannot be lowered, which means the bird permanently trades a clear forward view of its own bill for a signal. Females place their nests on rock even where the surrounding forest is rich in trees, tying the whole species to geology. Cock-of-the-rock leks can persist in the same clearing for decades, with young males occupying courts vacated by dead ones.
