- Despite their name, guinea pigs are neither pigs nor from Guinea—they are rodents originally from the Andes mountains of South America.
- Guinea pigs communicate with a variety of sounds, including 'wheeking' for attention. They require vitamin C in their diet, as they cannot synthesize it themselves. Their teeth grow continuously and must be worn down by chewing fibrous foods.
