- Male Hamadryas Baboons are known to herd and control groups of females, using visual displays and herding behaviors rarely seen in other primates.
- Hamadryas Baboons have one of the most complex social structures among non-human primates, organized in harems led by dominant males. Their sacred status in ancient Egypt led to their depiction in art and mythology as symbols of the sun god. Unlike many other baboon species, they are also found naturally outside Africa on the Arabian Peninsula.
