- Despite their name, harbor porpoises are often found far from actual harbors and can even occur in brackish or freshwater rivers.
- Harbor porpoises are among the most widely distributed small cetaceans, yet they are rarely seen due to their secretive and inconspicuous behavior. Unlike dolphins, they rarely bow-ride or perform aerial displays. Their rapid, quiet surfacing makes them difficult to spot in the wild.
