- Harlequin Bugs can overwinter as adults, hiding in plant debris until warmer temperatures return.
- The Harlequin Bug releases a pungent odor when threatened as a defense mechanism. Its bright coloration is an example of aposematism, warning predators of its unpleasant taste. Females lay up to 200 eggs in clusters, which are barrel-shaped and arranged in neat rows on leaf undersides.
