- Harlequin ladybirds outcompete many native ladybird species and can even prey on their eggs and larvae, contributing to the decline of local populations.
- Harlequin ladybirds can secrete a yellow, foul-smelling fluid from their leg joints as a defense mechanism. They are known to overwinter in large groups inside houses and buildings, sometimes becoming a nuisance to people. This species can have multiple generations per year in suitable climates.
