- Harlequin shrimp can survive for weeks on a single sea star, methodically consuming it limb by limb while keeping the star alive for as long as possible.
- Harlequin shrimp feed almost exclusively on sea stars, often dragging prey many times their own size to their hiding place. They are monogamous and are usually found in pairs, working together to subdue and consume their prey. Their dazzling coloration serves as both camouflage among corals and a warning to potential predators.
