- The casque of the Helmeted Hornbill is made of solid keratin and is so prized in some cultures that it is often referred to as 'hornbill ivory,' making the species a target for poaching.
- Helmeted Hornbills are one of the few hornbill species with a solid casque, which can account for up to 10% of their body weight. They are known for their long, laughing calls that can be heard over a kilometer away and for their spectacular head-to-head aerial battles.
