- Despite living in cold, high-altitude regions, Himalayan Newts can survive brief periods of freezing temperatures thanks to their ability to enter a state of dormancy.
- Himalayan Newts have a defense mechanism where they arch their bodies and display their bright orange coloration to deter predators. Their skin secretes toxins that can cause irritation, making them unpalatable to many would-be predators. During the breeding season, males develop a distinctive crest along their back and tail.
