- The Hispid Hare is one of the world's rarest lagomorphs and is considered a 'living fossil' because its lineage dates back to the Pleistocene epoch.
- The Hispid Hare is sometimes called the 'bristly rabbit' due to its unusually coarse fur. Unlike most hares, it rarely ventures into open areas, spending most of its life hidden in tall grass. It was once believed to be extinct until it was rediscovered in the 1970s.
