- Hooded seal pups are weaned after just 3β5 days, the shortest lactation period of any mammal.
- Male hooded seals have a unique nasal sac that they inflate into a balloon-like hood over their heads, which can also produce loud sounds. Their pups grow faster than any other mammal, quadrupling their weight in just four days due to the extremely rich milk from their mothers. Hooded seals can dive over 1,000 meters and stay underwater for nearly an hour.
