- Horned puffins spend most of their lives far out at sea, sometimes not touching land for months at a time.
- Horned puffins can carry multiple fish crosswise in their beak at once thanks to a specialized hinge in their jaws. Unlike the similar Atlantic puffin, horned puffins have a distinct fleshy 'horn' above each eye. Their bright beak colors fade after the breeding season, becoming duller until the next year.
