- Howler monkeys are considered the loudest land animals in the Americas and their calls can travel up to 5 km (3 miles) through dense rainforest.
- Howler monkeys have an enlarged hyoid bone in their throats, giving them a deep, resonant call. Despite their loud voices, they are generally slow-moving and spend much of the day resting and digesting their leafy diet.
