- The Humboldt squid is sometimes called the 'red devil' due to its aggressive behavior and the deep red color it displays when excited or threatened.
- Humboldt squid can communicate with each other by rapidly changing their skin color patterns. They are capable of reaching speeds up to 24 km/h (15 mph) when hunting. Despite their menacing appearance, they are vital to the ocean ecosystem as both predators and prey.
