- The Indian Roofed Turtle can retract its head and limbs fully into its shell, providing effective protection against predators.
- Indian Roofed Turtles are excellent swimmers and can often be seen basking in groups. Males have much longer tails than females, and the 'roof' on their shell is most pronounced in males. Their vivid stripes help them blend in with aquatic vegetation.
