- The Irukandji Jellyfish was not scientifically described until 1964, after a researcher deliberately stung himself to prove its existence.
- Irukandji Jellyfish are among the smallest and most venomous jellyfish on Earth. They can fire stingers from the tips of their tentacles even after being removed from water. Their venom is so potent that stings are considered medical emergencies, yet the jellyfish itself is nearly invisible to swimmers.
