- Jaguars are one of the few big cats that regularly kill prey by biting directly through the skull with their powerful jaws.
- Jaguars have the strongest bite force of any big cat, capable of piercing turtle shells and crushing skulls. Unlike most cats, jaguars are excellent swimmers and often hunt in or near water. Their name is derived from the indigenous word 'yaguareté,' meaning 'true, fierce beast.'
