- Jaguars are one of the few big cats that regularly kill prey by biting directly through the skull with their powerful jaws.
- The jaguar's name is derived from the indigenous Tupi-Guarani word 'yaguara', meaning 'beast that kills in a single bound', highlighting its prowess as a hunter. Unlike most big cats, jaguars enjoy swimming and are often found near water bodies, where they hunt fish and caimans. Despite their size, jaguars are solitary creatures, with territories that can span up to 100 square kilometers and are marked by clawing trees and leaving scent marks. A common misconception is that jaguars roar frequently; in reality, they communicate more often through a series of growls and grunts.
