- Despite their name and appearance, jaguarundis are more closely related to cougars than to jaguars.
- Jaguarundis communicate using a wide variety of vocalizations, more than most other wild cats. Unlike many felines, they are strong swimmers and have been observed crossing rivers and streams. Their long, weasel-like body shape is unique among New World cats.
