Did you know?
- Despite their name and appearance, jaguarundis are more closely related to cougars than to jaguars.
- Jaguarundis were kept by pre-Columbian peoples, apparently semi-tamed, to control rodents around settlements - one of the few wild cats with any such history. They are strong swimmers and readily cross rivers, which is unusual for a small felid. The species also goes by "otter cat" in parts of its range, a name that captures the long body, low profile and comfort in water far better than "cat" does.
