- Unlike most dog breeds, the Japanese Chin's coat does not have a typical doggy odor and requires surprisingly little grooming maintenance.
- Japanese Chins are often described as having a 'cat-like' personality, including a fondness for climbing and self-grooming. They have a distinctive 'oriental' expression with a short muzzle and large, wide-set eyes. The breed has been gifted between royal courts in Japan, China, and Europe as a symbol of friendship.
