- Kakapos store large amounts of energy as fat, making them the world’s heaviest parrot species.
- Kakapos are the only parrots that cannot fly, and they are also the only parrots with a polygynous lek breeding system. Their facial disc of feathers gives them an owl-like appearance and enhances their sense of smell—an unusual trait among birds.
