- The Kea is the only parrot in the world that lives in alpine environments.
- It is the only parrot on Earth that lives in an alpine environment. Its warbling play call is contagious — birds that merely hear a recording spontaneously start playing, making it the first non-mammal known to show infectious emotion. It strips rubber from cars and defeats bins built specifically to stop it. It was hunted under a government bounty for decades, on the false belief that it killed sheep.
