- Unlike most birds, King Penguin chicks take over a year to fledge and are cared for by their parents through the harsh winter.
- King Penguins can dive deeper and longer than most other penguin species, sometimes staying underwater for up to 5 minutes. They don't build nests, instead balancing their eggs on their feet under a flap of skin called a brood pouch. Their colonies can be so dense that they appear as a moving carpet of black, white, and orange.
