- Despite their massive size and prehistoric appearance, lake sturgeon are harmless to humans and feed primarily on small invertebrates found in the sediment.
- Lake sturgeon are among the oldest and longest-living freshwater fish species in North America, capable of surviving for over a century. Females can take up to 25 years to reach sexual maturity and may only spawn once every four to nine years. Their bodies are armored with five rows of bony scutes rather than scales.
