Did you know?
- Laughing Kookaburras often form family groups where older siblings help raise new chicks, a behavior known as cooperative breeding.
- Kookaburra chicks are born with a bill hook that exists purely for fighting their siblings and is resorbed within a few weeks. The dawn chorus is delivered by the whole family in overlapping parts, and it is used as generic "jungle" background noise in films set on continents where kookaburras have never lived. They were introduced to Western Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand, where they prey on native species and are not universally welcome.
