- Leatherback sea turtles can migrate more than 10,000 miles (16,000 kilometers) each year, making them one of the most widely traveled marine creatures.
- Leatherbacks are the only sea turtles without hard, bony shells; their carapace is leathery and flexible. They can dive deeper than 1,200 meters (4,000 feet), making them one of the deepest-diving marine reptiles. Unlike other reptiles, leatherbacks can regulate their body temperature to survive in colder waters.
