Did you know?
- A leopard can carry prey that is heavier than itself up into the branches of a tree, often more than 3 meters off the ground.
- Leopards are remarkably strong climbers, often dragging prey heavier than themselves up trees to avoid scavengers like hyenas. They are also known for their ability to thrive in close proximity to human settlements, often venturing into villages in search of domestic animals. A lesser-known fact is that leopards can run at speeds of up to 58 km/h (36 mph), making them formidable hunters. Interestingly, the melanistic variant, known as the black panther, is not a separate species but simply a leopard with a genetic mutation that results in a black coat.
