- Despite their abundance in certain areas, the majority of Lesser Flamingos breed at only a handful of sites, making their populations vulnerable to habitat changes.
- Lesser Flamingos form some of the largest bird colonies in the world, sometimes exceeding one million individuals. They are uniquely adapted to feed on toxic cyanobacteria that few other animals can consume. Their pink coloration intensifies with a diet rich in carotenoids.
