- Despite being fully aquatic, the Lesser Siren can breathe air and survive in oxygen-poor waters thanks to its external gills and lungs.
- Lesser Sirens possess only front limbs, giving them a snake-like appearance, and they can vocalize with clicks and yelps. They have the remarkable ability to survive months without water by entering a state of dormancy underground.
