Did you know?
- The Lilac-breasted Roller is considered a symbol of peace in some African cultures and is often featured in folklore and tribal art.
- The elongated outer tail feathers of the adult are absent in juveniles, so a young roller looks like a short-tailed version of its parents. Rollers nest in natural tree cavities and old woodpecker holes, and will attack anything approaching the nest, including humans. The bird is often called the national bird of Kenya and Botswana; this is popular belief rather than official designation in both cases.
