- Despite their tiny size, Little Brown Bats can live longer than most mammals of similar size, with some recorded at over 30 years old in the wild.
- A little brown bat can live over 30 years, extraordinary for an animal weighing less than a slice of bread, and it is among the longest-lived mammals relative to body size. Females store sperm through hibernation - they mate in autumn but do not ovulate until spring, so fertilisation happens months after copulation. Their echolocation calls sweep from about 80 kHz down to 40 kHz, and a hunting bat fires up to 200 pulses a second in the terminal "feeding buzz" as it closes on an insect.
