- The Long-beaked Echidna can lower its body temperature to near ambient levels, making it one of the most cold-tolerant mammals in the tropics.
- Long-beaked Echidnas are one of the few mammals that lay eggs. They have electroreceptors in their snouts to detect prey underground. Despite their spines, they can burrow rapidly to escape predators.
