- When threatened or severely stressed, the Longhorn Cowfish can poison an entire aquarium by releasing toxins from its skin.
- The Longhorn Cowfish can secrete a potent toxin called ostracitoxin as a defense mechanism. Its horns are believed to make it difficult for predators to swallow. Despite its boxy shape, it is an agile swimmer using a unique fin movement called ostraciiform swimming.
