- This snake is one of the few reptiles in the world with such extreme sexual dimorphism, making males and females look almost like different species.
- Males and females have dramatically different snout shapes; males possess a long, pointed 'leaf' while females have a broader, serrated projection. The snake often sways its body back and forth to mimic leaves rustling in the wind. Its camouflage is so effective that it is rarely detected even by predators.
