- Despite their small size, Maltese dogs are excellent watchdogs and will alert their owners to any unusual activity.
- The Maltese breed is thought to have originated from the island of Malta, giving it its name. Maltese dogs were once believed to possess healing powers and were often placed on the pillows of the sick in ancient times. Their long coat, although luxurious, does not shed much, making them a relatively low-allergen breed.
