- The Manchester Terrier was one of the first breeds specifically developed for urban pest control in 19th-century England.
- Manchester Terriers are sometimes called "the gentleman's terrier" due to their refined appearance and manners. They share ancestry with the Whippet and the now-extinct Black and Tan Terrier. The breed comes in two varieties: Toy and Standard, though only the Standard is recognized in some countries.
