- Despite their name and appearance, Mandarin Dragon Nudibranchs are not true nudibranchs, but belong to a different order of sea slugs called Cephalaspidea.
- Mandarin Dragon Nudibranchs have special sensory organs called rhinophores to detect chemicals in the water, helping them locate prey. Unlike many nudibranchs, they belong to the headshield slug group and can burrow slightly into sand. Their vivid coloration serves as a warning to predators about their unpalatable taste.
